Welcome to the LGBTQ+ Media Lens!

Hello and welcome to the blog! Here at the LGBTQ+ Media Lens, there is much representation to be found! With many sources of entertainment, come many opportunities to explore the world around us. And within these opportunities, we have access to multiple forms of artistic expression. Whether it is through film, music, or written form, art is all around us. However, not all artists in the media get a proper platform, especially LGBTQ+ artists. As we explore the world of media together, it is my hope that with every blogpost made, it will provide us with a chance to represent the artists who seldom get the recognition that they deserve. From new or up-and-coming artists, to creators who have been working for their whole life, this blog will highlight those who are paving a way for the LGBTQ+ community and are changing the way that representation in the media is being made.

I would also like to encourage you to reach out with any questions, comments or curiosities that you have. Is there a LGBTQ+ artist who you think is not getting the recognition that they deserve or a creation by an artist that you feel is long overdue for more public attention? If so, please feel free to have your voice heard too. Lastly, it is my goal to also inspire current and future LGBTQ+ artists to create works of their own and share with the world who they are. So, I hope you will stick around for more content coming soon and keep your eye on the lens. There are many LGBTQ+ artists and voices waiting to be heard and much representation to be made. I look forward to paving the road to representation together, one blogpost at a time.

Thank you for stopping by. See you in the next post!

Tashnuva Anan Shishir (Photo Credit: Thedailystar.net ) Shishir's Story The news just got a whole lot more inclusive. Allow us to introduce you to Tashnuva Anan Shishir, Bangladesh's first transgender news anchor. If you remember from earlier this month, one of our post's featured U.S. Representative, Ritchie Torres. Shortly after that, Shishir's spotlight expanded across the globe. Not only did this allow the her to share a part of her truth, but it also gave her the opportunity to feel more recognized.  The door quickly opened to a conversation about LGBTQ+ representation, a conversation that mainly takes place in low volume or is completely muted. It is interesting to consider that women who share Shishir's story are still trying to become recognized within our society. And with recognition, it is just as important to have representation. Without it, representation for the LGBTQ+ community are facing much of an uphill battle. Yet, the climb continues.  Tashnuva...

Visionary Voices: Frank Ocean is a Legend, Influencing LGBTQ+ Music with Sound and Representation in the Media

Frank Ocean (Photo Credit: Gq.com ) Frankly, He is a Legend Get ready for yet another post dedicated to a representational singing sensation. We have a strong feeling that you absolutely, positively have heard his star name before. Chances are, you have also heard his music one, two, or even thousands of times on the radio or even had someone recommend his talents to you. That is how famous this young and visionary artist is. And he only seems to continue to take us all to the next level with him. His name is Frank Ocean. This dedication post certainly feels like a long time coming and I say this because Frank Ocean is someone I consider myself to be immensely inspired by. I will never forget the first time that I heard Ocean's "Swim Good" and "Novacane" and certainly all thanks to a former friend of mine who was able to introduce me to some of his music (no, not the same friend that usually introduces me to good music and movies, although they are a pretty ...
