Words of Wonder

Happy March and Monday! Spring is just around the corner and we have another exciting blogpost that features a special LGBTQ+ artist who has been making a name for herself in the media and paving a way for representation for quite some time now. Her name is Orion Carloto. And if you have yet to read her work or tune into her YouTube channel, then we hope that this post will serve as that first stepping stone to help you rise up to a most influential occasion. And there is a reason that "influential" has been emphasized. In addition to being a writer, poet and creative influencer, Carloto recently over the years publicly came out as bisexual to an amassed online community who showered her much support and positivity. Hailing from a small town in Georgia and at just twenty-four years old, Carloto has managed to pen two bodies of work under her belt and has quickly grew under a social media spotlight that has risen her platform to a whole new level. Carloto has consistently and creatively inspired millions of followers with her effortless and relatable visual storytelling and her just as artistic and visionary collection of poetry. And while her content helps to set trends and turn heads, it is definitely her written work that truly captivates audiences around the world. A quality that not only gets people thinking, but makes them wiser.

It seems that regardless of whichever platform that she uses to express herself on, Carloto freely gives an energy of herself that is all her own. Part of this energy is a magnetic connection that pulls people in and always seems to leave them longing to experience more of her work and incredible talent. As a frequent viewer of her YouTube channel and a reader of her written work, I can absolutely attest to the fact that Carloto is not only a wonderful content creator, but an absolute visionary genius. When she writes, she writes wonderfully and her poetry offers readers a refreshing and enchanting journey that represents all of the woes and wonders of life that speak to so many people for a variety of reasons. It seems that when it comes to pouring her life out behind the lens and in-between the lines, there is no filter. What she does is not only original, but confidently creative. It is no wonder that Carloto is an internet and influential sensation. What is more, is that up until a year ago, people only seemed to know one version of Carloto that she openly shared to the online world. But that was destined to change when around that same year, a poet of the people came out to share more about their identity.

Opening up as Orion

It is important to talk about creatives like Carloto, especially when they are willing to be so open and vulnerable about who they are in the world. Even in 2021, it is no secret that not everyone who identifies as being on the spectrum of the LGBTQ+ community is ready to accept themselves. Nor is it a secret that those in a high profile position such as Carloto and her wide range of talented platforms are ready to publicly open up and be their 100% authentic self. Yet, it is posts like this that delight in the mere fact that someone out there is going to look at Carloto and see that if she can so openly be herself, then perhaps just maybe, they can too. When an influencer has such a massive audience, it certainly seems to come with a massive amount of responsibility. This responsibility has a major impact and impression on those who tune in to view or click on anything and everything that an influencer does. So when the wonderful writer that is Carloto opens up to the world, the world in turn, seems ready to open up right back. And with millions of people turning to online platforms to find a sense of normalcy or relatable content or even desperate to make connections, the power of the platform requires a responsible rise. For many people, (myself included) Carloto is more than just a creative genius, she is a strong source of inspiration and makes us all look at the world a little more differently each day - with eyes certainly wide open. Carloto also offers something of a comfort blanket with what she does, a natural ability that allows her platform to become something of a safe zone for others to weigh in on the world right alongside with her - something that you do not get from every creative that you encounter online, or anywhere for that matter.

Between Flux (2017) and her most recent body of work, Film for Her (2020), Carloto is bringing LGBTQ+ representation in the media to new and incredible heights. Her works are not only intimate, but telling of a young artist who is going to continue to rise (so please dear reader, do not allow yourself to slip under the radar). And while her visuals (both video and photography) capture the minds, hearts, and imaginations of millions, she still leaves room to check in with her community and give them a space to feel seen, heard, and understood - a common theme amongst many LGBTQ+ heroes that is of course, anything but common. It is absolutely necessary (especially in the times that we are living in now) to hold onto something that makes you feel alive and to invest ourselves into the very things that connect us to one another on a more personal and organic level. In any medium that Carloto is using to self express herself in or even to explore and expand her creativity, she gives us an excuse to get lost a little bit more within ourselves and helps us tap into a part of own unique and individualized identities that might otherwise be undermined or completely neglected. This is something that I personally think makes an influencer truly influencing. And while the world is constantly evolving and rearranging, shifting and ever changing, we all owe it to ourselves to not only be comfortable in our own skin, but more open to being true to ourselves and living loudly with our passions and creativity - regardless of our sexuality. So dear reader, while you keep your eyes open to the next big thing that artists such as Orion Carloto are bound to put out next (whether online or on the bookstore shelf), do keep your heart just as widely open and look and experience for yourself just how much more beautiful the world around us can truly be when you are just as true to yourself.

Visionary Voices: Frank Ocean is a Legend, Influencing LGBTQ+ Music with Sound and Representation in the Media

Frank Ocean (Photo Credit: Gq.com ) Frankly, He is a Legend Get ready for yet another post dedicated to a representational singing sensation. We have a strong feeling that you absolutely, positively have heard his star name before. Chances are, you have also heard his music one, two, or even thousands of times on the radio or even had someone recommend his talents to you. That is how famous this young and visionary artist is. And he only seems to continue to take us all to the next level with him. His name is Frank Ocean. This dedication post certainly feels like a long time coming and I say this because Frank Ocean is someone I consider myself to be immensely inspired by. I will never forget the first time that I heard Ocean's "Swim Good" and "Novacane" and certainly all thanks to a former friend of mine who was able to introduce me to some of his music (no, not the same friend that usually introduces me to good music and movies, although they are a pretty

The Elliot Effect: Elliot Page Continues to Rise as a Star and Shines a Light on LGBTQ+ Representation in the Media

Elliot Page (Photo Credit: Nytimes.com ) A Page Turning Story For readers who are avid film fanatics of the media world, today's post features another talented artist who is no stranger to the silver screen. Allow us to introduce you to the one and only superstar, Elliot Page. At just thirty-four years old, the Canadian actor and producer has been making a name for himself in the entertainment industry since an early age. It was like a star that became brighter and brighter, and the whole world got to witness it. Fans of Page may remember his notable film roles in big name pictures such as  Inception (2010) and the starring lead in Diablo Cody's comedy classic,  Juno  (2007). I for one, will never forget the first time that I saw Page light up across the screen and, quite frankly, I do not believe the rest of the world did either. All those many years ago, Page was doing something unlike any other artist out there who was breaking out onto the "indie" scene. On scre

Visionary Voices: Rina Sawayama Makes Music and LGBTQ+ Representation in the Media Magical

Rina Sawayama (Photo Credit: Damienfry.com ) The Revolution of Rina Lately the word "special" has been used to describe our most recent content, but today's post might just be even that much more special (and for many good reasons). In our last post we secretly hinted toward who the next LGBTQ+ artist would be and we are more than excited to be talking about our next world changer. So far, we have explored media on both the big screen and the bookshelf, but we have yet to chart into the territory where LGBTQ+ representation is making huge breakthroughs and certainly has been for decades. Despite what you may have seen on screen or read in-between the lines, this LGBTQ+ artist is changing the way that the world both  hears and listens to representation. And she is doing it one hit song after another. Rina Sawayama is a Japanese-British singer/songwriter superstar who is using her stage as a platform to create inspirational music and bring awareness to important issues of
